Lecture 1.4 - Introduction and Types of Data - Scales of measurement
Published at : October 26, 2021
Prof. Usha Mohan
Department of Management Studies
IIT Madras
Learning outcomes:
1. Know the scales of measurement and its importance in summarizing the variables.
2. Identify different types of scales of measurement, i.e., nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio.
3. Differentiate between the nominal and ordinal scales, given categorical data.
4. Differentiate between the interval and ratio scales, given numerical data.
5. Differentiate between ordinal and interval scale.
6. Understand why the ratio of two values is not meaningful in the case of an interval scale.
7. Have clarity on which arithmetic operations are possible on different scales.
